Monopoly
In our first year of computer science, we created the game Monopoly. The project was structured such that our teachers provided us with a Java server containing endpoints that we needed to implement, along with a “starter” front-end application. Our task was to develop both the front-end and back-end from scratch.
Unfortunately, I can’t link to our Git repositories because the school has since changed its Git servers, and I no longer have access to the old server.
Mars transit
In our second year, we were tasked with creating an application for Mars. The project scenario was set in the year 3023, where humanity has established a civilization on Mars. Our objective was to develop an application that would make living on Mars easier.
Our group consisted of five members, including myself. We decided to create “Mars Transit,” a railway company on Mars providing public transportation options. The application we developed was a website that displayed available routes to your destination via public transport. Although we didn’t have actual data for Mars, we used data from the NMBS (National Railway Company of Belgium) to simulate the functionality. After selecting a route, users could purchase a ticket and enjoy their travels.
Similar to the Monopoly game, I can’t provide a link to our repositories due to the school’s server change.
ChartMill
In my final year, our school collaborated with various companies to offer us projects, giving us real-world work experience and the opportunity to interact with clients.
Among the many intriguing projects, I chose to work with ChartMill, a company that provides stock market data, including stock views, earnings reports, and more. The specific challenge they presented was to transition from using static images for stock charts to creating interactive charts. The interactive charts needed to allow users to draw lines, add indicators, zoom, and more.
At the beginning, we were uncertain about how to proceed, but after several meetings and a clearer definition of the project scope, we started developing a framework using TypeScript. By the end of the project, we were able to fulfill all the client’s requirements, and we were very satisfied with the results.
Here is the link to the repository of our framework: ChartMill Interactive Charts.
